Day 97 - Peter Gabriel - Not One Of Us

You may look like we do
Talk like we do
But you know how it isYou’re not one of us
Not one of us
No you’re not one of us
I like open-minded people, but sometimes you meet people who isolate themselves into groups and exclude others. I’ve met some of those people the last weeks. This song is for them.
Day 79 - Marillion - The Answering Machine

Radiation is my favorite Marillion-with-Steve-Hogart album. The Answering Machine is a great song, especially the keyboard parts by Mark Kelly are freakin’ weird. In the video it’s more like an acoustic song though. Such a shame to play such a good song so shitty.
Day 53 - Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly

The first album by Pink Floyd that I bought was A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 1987. Mostly because I liked the song Learning to Fly. As a kid I was an aircraft spotter, and this was just the perfect song for kids like me.
Day 52 - Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

I’ve been listening to a 1980 Pink Floyd bootleg from one of the The Wall concerts. Live at Earl’s Court, London, England, August 6, 1980. It’s one complete show, so even better then the official release Is There Anybody Out There? / The Wall Live Pink Floyd 1980-81. There’s a lot of tunes I could choose, but for today Comfortably Numb has to do.
Day 51 - Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons

Another Dream Theater track, the epic, 23 minutes+, A Change of Seasons. Some great themes, some great lyrics:
I’m sick of all you hypocrites
Holding me at bay
And I don’t need your sympathy
To get me through the day
YouTube: A Change of Seasons, live 2000 (part 1), (part 2), (part 3), (part 4)
Day 50 - Dream Theater - Trial Of Tears

Work and some real bad hay fever restrained me from posting some songs the last few days. In this tempo I will be posting song number 10.000 somewhere in 2063.
Today its finaly raining, so goodbye to hay fever. At least for today. My song choice for today is from the same Dream Theater album as in day 49, Falling Into Infinity. It’s the epic Trail of Tears, and particular posted for the first part of the song: It’s Raining.
Its raining, raining,
On the streets of new york city
Yeah, here in Alkmaar too.
Day 49 - Dream Theater - Peruvian Skies

When I started reading fantasy novels I went looking for music that would fit playing while reading. “You should try some symphonic rock”, someone said. So I went to the record store, picked the latest release from the biggest name and went home with Falling Into Infinity by Dream Theater. It was love at first sight. Or first hear.
Ten years later I stopped reading fantasy novels. They’re always telling the same story. But I’m still listening to Dream Theater who’s albums never sound the same. And despite of what the critics say I consider Falling Into Infinity to be one of their best albums.
Day 48 - Marillion - Punch & Judy

A song about divorce.
Whatever happened to pillow fights
Whatever happened to jeans so tight, friday nights
Whatever happened to lovers lane
Whatever happened to passion games
Sunday walks in the pouring rain
It’s all so true.
About this/me
About this:
Inspired by Tuuur, who was inspired by Glenn Case, I will be posting some song of the day posts over here. This blog is written in (poor) English, but since I’m from the Netherlands there will be some Dutch songs and/or lyrics passing by.
About me:
I live in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, a short train ride from Amsterdam. I like open source software, open-minded people and bars open all night.
