Day 110 - Nada Surf - Blonde On Blonde

Nada Surf is also the only band that could write a song about a Bob Dylan album.
I’ve got Blonde on Blonde
On my portable stereo
It’s a lullabye
From a giant golden radio

Day 109 - Nada Surf - Fruit Fly

Nada Surf is the only band that could write a song about fruit flies. I have them in my kitchen right now, probably coming from the basil.
Flying jerky patterns
Like snowflakes in the air
Day 88 - My Morning Jacket - Highly Suspicious

Some like the new My Morning Jacket album, some hate it. Especialy Highly Suspicious is a love it/hate it song. I’m lovin’ it. Wonderfull song like Prince don’t makes them anymore. I’ve heard some live versions of this song, and live it’s even better. So I’m going to De Melkweg tonight and check them out.

Day 60 - My Morning Jacket - Hopefully

From the second album At Dawn by My Morning Jacket comes Hopefully. Jim James and reverb, its such a golden combination.
Day 56 - The Magic Numbers - Mornings Eleven

A few days ago I scrobbled my 35.000th track on my last.fm account. It was Mornings Eleven by the Magic Numbers, a song I never heard before.
Day 40 - The Smiths - Panic

Another note from Mireille:
Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
What else could I do then agree? So I went down to the recordstore and downloaded the LP The World Won’t Listen under my jacket. (We had no internet back then and the sign on the shop said Free Record Shop, it didn’t feel like stealing. Also, the album featured a song called Shoplifters of the World Unite.)
She used to listen to these English indie bands, I used to listen to metal. Both music dj’s didn’t play on the radio. The Smiths were so different from what I used to listen to, but their lyrics were so great. Still are. Music on the radio, or on television, says nothing to me about my life. Hang the blessed dj!
Day 39 - The Housemartins - Five Get Over Excited

I think she was the first girl to fall in love with me. Mireille. I did third grade for the second time and she just moved in town during the summer holidays. We were both outsiders. I was the hardrock kid between the hiphop kids, she was the only colored girl between all the white kids but didn’t like hiphop. We started changing notes during the lessons and soon it was us against the world. Or at least the school. I still have some of these notes, somewhere.
She used to write down song lyrics in her notes, and she used to listen to complete different music than I was listening to. Elvis Costello, The Smiths, The Style Council, Billy Bragg, Camper Van Beethoven. And The Housemartins.
I liked The Housemartins. Finaly there was a band in which the members looked like me. Just ordinary guys. Sure, I wanted to look like I was in a heavy metal band, but wasn’t allowed to wear long hair by my parents, wasn’t allowed to drink lots of whiskey, and didn’t got the money to buy a black leather jacket.
I wonder what Mireille is listening to these days.
About this/me
About this:
Inspired by Tuuur, who was inspired by Glenn Case, I will be posting some song of the day posts over here. This blog is written in (poor) English, but since I’m from the Netherlands there will be some Dutch songs and/or lyrics passing by.
About me:
I live in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, a short train ride from Amsterdam. I like open source software, open-minded people and bars open all night.
