Day 96 - Ben Harper - Mama’s Got a Girlfriend Now

A funny story: some years ago people told me “have you heard Jeff Buckley?” I hadn’t. So I went to the recordstore and bought Welcome to the Cruel World. Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper, the names sound alike. Well ,at least in my ears. Coming home I put the disc in my cd player and discovered the mistake. Fortunately I liked it anyway.

Day 95 - Ash - Girl From Mars

I always forget about Ash, but when I listen to 1977 I realy like it and am surprised that I only got their debut album and nothing more.
Day 94 - Marilyn Manson - The Dope Show

Riccardo Riccò is taken out of the Tour de France. Once again this cycling event is not to be taken seriously. For the first time in years I didn’t watch the event. I’m glad I made that decision.
Day 91 - Pixies - Motorway to Roswell

Sort of vacation song. Alien visits earth for a holiday but ends up dead in a crate with photographs of it in files. X-files that will be. How could this so great, turn so shit?
Day 78 - Frank Black - Los Angeles

The opening song from Frank Black’s debut album sounds a lot like a leftover from the last Pixies album Trompe Le Monde, which is my favorite Pixies album, at the moment. I don’t know if I like Frank Black solo, or Black Francis as he is calling himself right now. It just doesn’t have the impact that the Pixies had. Still there are some good songs, like this Los Angeles.

Day 55 - Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly

Searching for Pink Floyds Learning to Fly videoclip (see two days ago) I stumbled upon this track with almost the same title by Foo Fighters. I still don’t know about Foo Fighters. I bought their debut album. And I still follow them, but I don’t buy their records anymore. Every album has some good songs, but every album also has some shitty songs. Maybe they should do a best of, I would certainly buy that. Unless they choose all the shitty songs that is. Let’s hope they include Learn To Fly.
Day 41 - Camper Van Beethoven - Take the Skinheads Bowling

Another note from Mireille said: Take the skinheads bowling, take them bowling. I did found out back then that it was a song by a band called Camper Van Beethoven, but it would take almost 20 years before I heard the song. In 2002 they released the Cigarettes & Carrot Juice: The Santa Cruz Years Box Set, including their first album Telephone Free Landslide Victory which featured Take the Skinheads Bowling. I bought the box back then and today once again listened to this song.

Day 17 - The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl

Back to videoclips. Back to the zeros. Back to The White Stripes.
Nowadays I don’t watch music television anymore. It’s only R&B what they play. Rap and bullshit. But I do like lego, so I saw the clip from The White Stripes song Fell In Love With A Girl. Directed by Michel Gondry. I recently saw his movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and liked it. He also directed the clip for The Denial Twist. That’s great too, but no lego.

Day 6 - Pearl Jam - Do the evolution

Any Pearl Jam song could be a “song of the day”. If those guys had written 10.000 songs I could easily fill this blog with 10.000 Pearl Jam songs. For today I choose Do The Evolution, a fine hardrock song. And a fine clip too.
Day 4 - The White Stripes - Catch Hell Blues

This song, from the 2007 album Icky Thump, is exactly what rock is ment to be. Dirty and mean. Freakin’ guitar riffs. One of those songs that can be played on repeat for hours.
