10.000 songs can’t be wrong

Day 118 - Bob Dylan and The Band - I’m Not There

I’m finaly going to watch the I’m Not There Bob Dylan biopic. I love the soundtrack, hope the movie is just as good as that.

Day 105 - The Beatles - When I’m Sixty-Four

Day 5 of the “Songs that suck” theme week.

A song by one of the most overrated bands in the world, from one of the most overrated albums in the world. When I’m Sixty-Four. From Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. By The Beatles. The whole album sucks, but this song realy sucks. It’s all happy and lovely and sweet. It’s so Paul McCartney. It’s so boring.

YouTube: When I’m Sixty-Four sing-a-long (with lyrics in comic sans, that realy sucks!)

Day 98 - Neil Diamond - Solitary Man

Chris Isaak did a cover, Johnny Cash did a cover and HIM did a cover. I like the Cash cover as the best of these three. But nothing is better then the original version by Neil Diamond, two-and-a-half minute of heartbreak and self-affirmation.

Day 93 - Moondog - Lament I, Bird’s Lament

I love the music that My Morning Jacket is using as intro music for their Evil Urges tour so I used google to find out what it is. The answer: Moondog with Lament I, Bird’s Lament.

Moondog is a self taught composer, who was born as Louis Thomas Hardin. He became blind at the age of 16. He lived in New York till 1974 as street musician and poet. In 1974 he moved to Germany which was, as he believed, the holy land with the holy river (the rhine). An amazing life, and amazing music.

Day 85 - Lesley Gore - It’s My Party

Girlpop from 1963, and still an enjoyable song. Lesley Gore was 16 years old when she recorded this song, which was produced by Quincy Jones. In 2005 Lesley Gore recorded a come back album and she still performs live.

Day 65 - The Beatles- Hey Jude

I’ve never had anything up with The Beatles but doing a 10k without The Beatles is impossible.

I’m reading Stephen Kings Dark Tower novels this year, just finished Wizard and Glass, now reading Wolves of the Calla. Hey Jude is a song that can be heard in almost every saloon in mid-world, although the lyrics are slightly different.

Day 62 - Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - Constipation Blues

Ladies and gentlemen, most people record songs about love,
heartbreak, loneliness, being broke… Nobody’s actually went out and
recorded a song about real pain. The band and I have just returned
from the General Hospital where we caught a man in the right position.
We name this song: “Constipation blues”.

What a way to introduce a song! And what a wonderfull lyrics. This is a fine, slow, bluessong.

Day 20 - Bob Dylan - Masters of War

Day two of the Bob Dylan week.

I’m not a great fan of the early Bob Dylan. Songs like Blowin’ In The Wind or The Times They Are A-Changin’ are so much played and covered that they became some sort of cliché. But there are some strong songs from this early years that still have meaning these days. Masters of War for example. Look at those lyrics:

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I’m young
You might say I’m unlearned
But there’s one thing I know
Though I’m younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

It’s only a few years ago that singing this song draw the attention of the secret service. Maybe this post will do to.
