10.000 songs can’t be wrong

Day 100 - Underworld - Two Months Off

A hundred days off, with this project. Took me four months. Hundred and twenty days. So 10.000 songs will last 12.000 days. That’s 32.8767 years. Make that 33 years. Finishing this project in 2041. I’m 71 years old by then. But first: do a rain dance along with Karl Hyde.

Day 98 - Neil Diamond - Solitary Man

Chris Isaak did a cover, Johnny Cash did a cover and HIM did a cover. I like the Cash cover as the best of these three. But nothing is better then the original version by Neil Diamond, two-and-a-half minute of heartbreak and self-affirmation.

Day 97 - Peter Gabriel - Not One Of Us

You may look like we do
Talk like we do
But you know how it is

You’re not one of us
Not one of us
No you’re not one of us

I like open-minded people, but sometimes you meet people who isolate themselves into groups and exclude others. I’ve met some of those people the last weeks. This song is for them.

Day 96 - Ben Harper - Mama’s Got a Girlfriend Now

A funny story: some years ago people told me “have you heard Jeff Buckley?” I hadn’t. So I went to the recordstore and bought Welcome to the Cruel World. Jeff Buckley, Ben Harper, the names sound alike. Well ,at least in my ears. Coming home I put the disc in my cd player and discovered the mistake. Fortunately I liked it anyway.

Day 95 - Ash - Girl From Mars

I always forget about Ash, but when I listen to 1977 I realy like it and am surprised that I only got their debut album and nothing more.

Day 94 - Marilyn Manson - The Dope Show

Riccardo Riccò is taken out of the Tour de France. Once again this cycling event is not to be taken seriously. For the first time in years I didn’t watch the event. I’m glad I made that decision.

Day 93 - Moondog - Lament I, Bird’s Lament

I love the music that My Morning Jacket is using as intro music for their Evil Urges tour so I used google to find out what it is. The answer: Moondog with Lament I, Bird’s Lament.

Moondog is a self taught composer, who was born as Louis Thomas Hardin. He became blind at the age of 16. He lived in New York till 1974 as street musician and poet. In 1974 he moved to Germany which was, as he believed, the holy land with the holy river (the rhine). An amazing life, and amazing music.

Day 92 - James Brown - Please, Please, Please

Heard this song earlier this week at an Irish(!) pub in Amsterdam. I knew this was old but didn’t know it was James Brown debut single, or that he was just 23 when recording this. I only know James Brown as an old man, doing it to death.

Day 91 - Pixies - Motorway to Roswell

Sort of vacation song. Alien visits earth for a holiday but ends up dead in a crate with photographs of it in files. X-files that will be. How could this so great, turn so shit?
